Canadian Experience Class Eligibility Requirements

Skilled Work Experience

  • A minimum of one year of full-time (or equivalent part-time) skilled work experience in Canada, acquired within the last three years under a valid temporary resident status.

  • The work experience should match the duties in the NOC's lead statement, cover all essential and most main duties, and fall under one or more of the TEER categories: TEER 0, TEER 1, TEER 2, and TEER 3.

  • The CEC program only counts paid work, such as wages or commission, and does not recognize volunteer roles or unpaid internships as valid work experience.

Education

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) does not have a formal education requirement. However, if applicants wish to improve their rank in the Express Entry pool, education can play a significant role. There are two ways to do this:

  • Canadian Education: If you have obtained a certificate, diploma, or degree from a Canadian secondary institution (high school), or post-secondary institution, you can receive additional points in the Express Entry ranking system.

  • Foreign Education: If you have received an education outside of Canada, you can still receive points. In this case, you must meet two key requirements: you must have a completed educational credential, and you must obtain an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report for immigration purposes.

Language Ability

The Canadian Experience Class (CEC) program also sets specific requirements for language proficiency.

English

  • NOC TEER 0 or 1 - Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) 7

  • NOC TEER 2 or 3 - Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) 5

French

  • NOC TEER 0 or 1 - Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) 7

  • NOC TEER 2 or 3 - Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) 5
