Who is covered by CCoFTA?

CCoFTA for Traders.

A CCoFTA Work Permit is for Colombian traders who engage in substantial trade of goods or services primarily between Canada and Colombia. The trade must exist at the time of the application and the individual should be employed in a supervisory or executive role, or their position involves essential skills.

CCoFTA for Investors.

A CCoFTA Work Permit is for Colombian investors who want to make a significant investment in a business in Canada and are seeking entry to develop and direct the business. Like Traders, they must occupy a supervisory, executive role, or a position that involves essential skills.​

CCoFTA for Intra-Company Transferees.

A CCoFTA Work Permit is for Colombian employees who are transferred within the same company from an office in Colombia to a branch, subsidiary, or affiliate in Canada. They must have been continuously employed by the same employer for at least one year in the last three years and should be employed in a capacity that is managerial, executive, or involves specialized knowledge.

CCoFTA for Professionals.

A CCoFTA Work Permit is for Colombian professionals who are contracted to provide pre-arranged professional services in Canada for a short period. They must have a university degree or a qualification demonstrating knowledge of an equivalent level, and their profession must be one that is agreed upon by both nations under the CCoFTA.

CCoFTA for Technicians.

A CCoFTA Work Permit is for Colombian technicians who are contracted to provide services in Canada in a specific occupation, given that the person has a post-secondary education or technical training equivalent and their profession is included in the CCoFTA list.
