STUDY VISA EXTENSION.

PATHWAY TO TEMPORARY RESIDENCE IN CANADA

STUDY VISA EXTENSION OVERVIEW.

A Study Visa extension in Canada allows international students to continue their education beyond the duration of their original study visa.

Students need to apply for an extension at least 30 days before the current permit expires, and it's recommended to apply 3-4 months in advance.

The application can be completed online while the student is in Canada.

Who can extend their Study Visa?

To extend your study visa in Canada, there are certain criteria that you must meet.

These include:

  • You must have a valid reason for needing an extension, such as continuing your studies or completing a post-graduation work permit.

  • You must have maintained your status as a student throughout your stay in Canada.

  • You must be enrolled in a Designated Learning Institution (DLI) and have a valid study permit for that institution.

  • You must demonstrate that you can financially support yourself during the extended period of stay.

When should you send your Study Visa Extension Application?

You must submit your study visa extension application 30 days before your current study permit expires.

If your study permit has already expired, you may be required to leave Canada and apply for a new study permit from outside the country.

What should you do while waiting for your extended Study Visa?

It is important to maintain your status as a student while your application is being processed. This means continuing to attend classes and meeting all academic requirements set by your designated learning institution.

What happens after you complete your study?

If you have completed your studies and plan to stay in Canada for an extended period of time, you may require a post-graduation work permit instead of a study visa extension.

The eligibility criteria and application process for this type of permit may differ.
