IRCC Now Allows International Students to Work During In-Session Classes

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) removes the barriers for international students working in critical services to fight COVID-19.

IRCC announces temporary rule change; starting immediately, the government removes the restrictions that allow international students to work a maximum of 20 hours per week while classes are in session. Provided they are employed in essential services or functions such as health care, critical infrastructure, or the supply of food or other critical goods.

As announced by IRCC, this is a temporary rule change and will be in place until August 31, 2020.

As quoted by – The Honorable Marco E. L. Mendicino, P.C., M.P., Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship

“Immigrants, temporary foreign workers, and international students are making important contributions as front-line workers in health care and other essential service sectors. We know and value their efforts and sacrifices to keep Canadians healthy and ensure the delivery of critical goods and services.”
