On January 30, 2024, Canada added a new accepted language test for the English language, giving future immigrants, workers, and foreign entrepreneurs more options to showcase the language proficiency required in their chosen program.

Updated List of Accepted Language Tests for Canadian Immigration in 2024
Every immigration program in Canada requires different language tests. Thus, here are the ones that IRCC accepts.
CELPIP: Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program
Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program is a comprehensive language test that assesses your English reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. There are two types of CELPIP tests that IRCC will require depending on your application.
Permanent Residency Application - If you are applying for permanent residency programs in Canada, such as Express Entry, you must take the CELPIP General Test to assess your reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in English.
Canadian Citizenship Application - If you are applying for Canadian citizenship, you must take CELPIP General LS, to assess your listening and speaking skills in English.
IELTS: International English Language Testing System
International English Language Testing System is the most well-known English language test in Canada that assesses your English language skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. IRCC accepts the IELTS General Training option.
PTE Core: Pearson Test of English
PTE Core: Pearson Test of English is the newly added language test for permanent residency applications under all economic classes in Canada that assesses your English reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. IRCC accepts the PTE Core option.
TEF Canada: Test d’évaluation de français
Test d’évaluation de français assesses your proficiency in the French language. The number of type of tests depend on the application purpose.
Permanent Residency Application - You are required to take 4 tests which include oral comprehension, written comprehension, oral expression, and written expression.
Canadian Citizenship Application - You are required to take 2 tests which include oral comprehension and oral expression.
TCF Canada: Test de connaissance du français
Test de connaissance du français assesses your knowledge of the French language for Canadian immigration or citizenship application in a language test that lasts for 2 hours and 47 minutes. This language test is made up of 4 tests which include listening comprehension, reading comprehension, written skills, and verbal skills.
